Code of Civilized Behavior for Domestic Tourism by Chinese Citizens

The Central Civilization Office, in conjunction with the National Tourism Administration, announced the "Convention on Civilized Behavior for Chinese Citizens in Domestic Tourism" on October 2, 2006, as follows: It is our duty to be civilized tourists, please abide by the following convention:

1. Maintain environmental hygiene. Do not spit or chew gum in public, do not litter, and do not smoke in non-smoking areas.

2. Observe public order. Do not make loud noises, queue in an orderly manner, do not block pathways, and do not speak loudly in public places.

3. Protect the ecological environment. Do not step on green spaces, do not pick flowers or fruits, and do not chase, hit, or feed animals indiscriminately.

4. Protect cultural relics and historical sites. Do not carve or write on cultural relics, do not climb or touch artifacts, and follow regulations when taking photos or videos.

5. Cherish public facilities. Do not damage hotel supplies, do not vandalize public facilities, do not take advantage of small benefits, conserve water and electricity, and do not waste food.

6. Respect the rights of others. Do not forcefully take photos with foreign guests, do not sneeze towards others, do not occupy public facilities for long periods, respect the labor of service personnel, and respect the customs of various ethnic groups and religions.

7. Treat others with courtesy. Dress neatly and appropriately, do not expose your chest or arms in public; yield to the elderly, children, and the disabled; yield to women; and do not use vulgar language.

8. Advocate for healthy entertainment. Resist feudal superstitions, and refuse pornography, gambling, and drugs.
