Introduction:

In September 1961, the Shanghai Xinghuo Magic Troupe performed in Nanchang. On the afternoon of September 17, after receiving a notice from higher authorities, the magician couple Zhang Fangfei and Li Yachun, along with two other assistants, formed a temporary performance group to participate in a show at the Jiangxi Hotel. Upon arriving at the hotel, they were delighted to learn that it was a special performance for Premier Zhou Enlai and other central leaders. During the performance, there was a disappearing watch trick. Zhang Fangfei borrowed a watch from an audience member, and Premier Zhou immediately stood up and lent him his own watch. Zhang Fangfei placed the Premier's watch in a cardboard box and made it disappear. When he turned around, the watch reappeared in a seven-layer box on another table, and the spectacular performance brought the atmosphere to a climax. Premier Zhou Enlai praised Zhang Fangfei's superb skills and gifted his watch to Zhang Fangfei as a memento. Soon after, Zhang Fangfei and the Xinghuo Magic Troupe were transferred to Jiangxi to support the cultural construction efforts in the province.

After the magician Zhang Fangfei passed away, this watch was kept by his family. In May 2009, Li Yachun and her son carefully decided to donate the watch to the Nanchang August 1st Uprising Memorial Museum. After being exhibited at the museum for a period of time, this precious artifact has now been properly stored.
