In the merit certificate issued to Comrade Zhou Wengu by the Command and Political Department of the 26th Army of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army in 1951, it is stated: Comrade Zhou Wengu has made outstanding contributions to the defense of the country during the Korean War, particularly in the fourth campaign, and is rated as a third-class people's merit. This certificate is issued as a form of encouragement. The date is May 10, 1951. The fourth campaign took place from January 25 to April 21, 1951, where the Chinese People's Volunteer Army and the Korean People's Army fought defensive battles in the northern and southern regions of the "38th Parallel" to stop the offensive launched by the U.S.-led "United Nations Forces" and the South Korean army they commanded, buying time for subsequent troops to arrive and prepare for counterattacks. In April 1951, during the second phase of the fourth campaign, the 26th Army was ordered to defend the area from Shuning to the west of Tieyuan in Korea. On April 5, the "United Nations Forces" crossed the 38th Parallel, and the U.S. 3rd and 25th Divisions advancing on the western front faced fierce resistance from the 26th Army. Zhou Wengu was a soldier in the 9th Company of the 230th Regiment of the 77th Division of the 26th Army, who had previously been awarded third-class merit in the Huangcaoling battle and earned military merit again for his bravery in the fourth campaign.
Comrade Xin Hong'en served as a sergeant in the 176th Regiment of the 59th Division of the 20th Army of the 9th Corps of the Volunteer Army and unfortunately sacrificed his life honorably on April 24, 1951, during the Songdong pursuit battle. In 1951, the 9th Corps of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army sent a certificate of honor to the family of martyr Xin Hong'en, which was mailed to the family of martyr Xin Hong'en in Rizhao Village, Panshi District, Haiyang City, Shandong Province. Xin Hong'en was born in April 1922 and joined the revolution in 1946, having served as a platoon leader in the 3rd Battalion of the 176th Regiment of the 59th Division of the Volunteer Army. He was only 29 years old when he sacrificed his life in Korea.
In addition to martyr Xin Hong'en, countless heroes emerged from the Volunteer Army: Luo Shengjiao, Huang Jiguang, Yang Gensi, Qiu Shaoyun... Many heroes, including Mao Zedong's eldest son Mao Anying, have been laid to rest on Korean soil. They made tremendous sacrifices for the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, and their spirit and deeds are forever worthy of our remembrance.
