The Nanchang August 1st Uprising Memorial Museum is a specialized memorial established to commemorate the Nanchang Uprising. It was founded in 1956, officially opened to the public in 1959, and in 1961 was announced by the State Council as one of the first key cultural relic protection units in the country (which includes five revolutionary sites: the former site of the General Command, the former site of He Long's Command, the former site of Ye Ting's Command, the former site of the Zhu De Military Education Group, and Zhu De's former residence). As the "First Museum of Chinese Military History," it has attracted much attention since its opening, with visits from many veteran proletarian revolutionaries and leaders of the Party and the country, including Zhou Enlai, Zhu De, Dong Biwu, He Long, Chen Yi, Peng Zhen, Jiang Zemin, Hu Jintao, and Xi Jinping.
In January 2008, the Nanchang August 1st Uprising Memorial Museum was the first to open free of charge to the public and proposed the concept of "free but not free tickets, service without discount," maintaining an annual reception of over 2 million visitors. Since its establishment, it has received over 30 million visitors from home and abroad, including over 10 million minors, achieving the goal of "educating people through history, touching people through objects, and attracting people through scenery." It has also received a series of honors, including "National Civilized Unit," "National First-Class Museum," "National AAAA-Level Tourist Attraction," "National Advanced Collective in Red Tourism Work," "Top Ten Classic Red Tourist Attractions in China," and was among the first batch of "Patriotic Education Demonstration Bases" and "National Defense Education Demonstration Bases."
Under the correct leadership of the relevant higher authorities, our museum focuses on the three main functions of collection, exhibition, and education, fully utilizing the resource advantages of the red revolutionary scenic area, actively carrying out patriotic education and revolutionary traditional education, and striving to become an important position for cultivating and practicing socialist core values.
Focusing on exhibitions, enriching the forms of cultural relics. To commemorate the 90th anniversary of the August 1st Nanchang Uprising and the founding of the People's Liberation Army, our museum launched the "One Museum and Five Sites" exhibition enhancement project. After the enhancement, the basic exhibition area of the Nanchang August 1st Uprising Memorial Museum reached 4,492 square meters, with an exhibition line of 998 meters, displaying 509 various pictures and charts, 407 cultural relics (sets), 51 artworks, and 8 large-scale landscapes and multimedia displays. Compared to before, the exhibition content is richer, the cultural relic display is more prominent, the exhibition methods are more advanced, and the historical materials are more accurate. At the same time, we regularly introduce 3-4 themed temporary exhibitions each year. For example, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the victory in the War of Resistance Against Japan, we introduced the exhibitions "Unyielding Struggle - The History of the 14-Year Anti-Japanese War in Northeast China" and "Great Contributions - China and the World Anti-Fascist War." To support the Party's mass line education practice activities, we introduced the exhibition "For the People, Pragmatic and Clean - Party Style Model Zhou Enlai." We launched original exhibitions such as "The Great Beginning - The Mobile Exhibition of the Nanchang Uprising" and "Exhibition of Generals Emerging from the Nanchang Uprising," which toured the country and received widespread acclaim.
Using activities as a carrier, broadening the scope of educational services. Our museum actively carried out activities such as moral lectures, thrift and savings, smile service month, and good deeds list; established a model pioneer post for party members to promote the integrity construction system; actively organized and carried out "I Contribute, I Am Happy" civilized traffic volunteer services, deeply caring for empty-nest elderly, left-behind children, and difficult workers in the community through Lei Feng volunteer service activities; actively advocated civilized tourism activities in the memorial park; and held themed activities "Our Festival" during the Spring Festival, Qingming Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival.
Focusing on young people, innovating educational forms. We carried out a series of activities such as "Bringing Exhibitions into Classrooms, Telling Stories of Ancestors, Teaching Revolutionary Songs, and Competing to be Little Guides." In the past two years, we have cooperated with schools to carry out over 80 themed educational activities such as "Caring for Little Red Army Kids," "Salute! The National Flag of the Republic," "Red Stage Inter-School PK," "Flowers Blooming in the Sun," "Remembering Revolutionary Martyrs and Following the Party Forever," and "Little Voices Conveying Military Spirit;" we have held multiple training sessions for "Little Guide" volunteers, training over 200 young volunteer guides.
Taking the opportunity of internet thinking, building a digital memorial museum. Our museum has created an APP self-service platform, showcasing the latest dynamic information, cultural relics, exhibition content, and themed activities of the museum in the form of cartoon guides and bilingual audio guides, vividly presenting revolutionary historical and cultural resources; we introduced an electronic touch message board, allowing visitors to write their visiting experiences through self-photography and handwritten messages. After the message board was put into use, it quickly became popular among visitors, with over 20,000 messages in just three months; since May 2015, our museum has launched a "WeChat and Weibo" platform to present the latest information of the museum to visitors in real-time and won over 790 likes through online "micro-interactions;" at the same time, our museum has attempted to upgrade traditional albums, combining audio books with static books, collecting and organizing narration scripts and background music, striving to create an interactive reading album that combines listening and reading, allowing visitors to immerse themselves while reading and better feel the "August 1st" culture.
The Nanchang August 1st Uprising Memorial Museum is rich in historical and red cultural resources, making it an important resource for carrying out patriotic and revolutionary traditional education and cultivating socialist core values. Based on this, our museum will continue to innovate, fully explore existing red cultural resources, create classic red tourism scenic spots, contribute to the comprehensive development of "red, green, and ancient" tourism in the province, and contribute to the prosperous development of national red tourism in the new era and new stage.
