In May 2015, the Nanchang August 1st Uprising Memorial Museum, in collaboration with the Nanjing Museum and other institutions, successfully applied for the Ministry of Culture's 2015 National Cultural and Technological Enhancement Program project titled "Research on the Application of Intelligent Deacidification Technology in the Preservation of Whole Books." This marks the first successful application for a national-level horizontal project by the Nanchang August 1st Uprising Memorial Museum.
The project focuses on paper cultural relics (books) as the research object, using nano-level alkaline substances with deacidification, reinforcement, and color-fixing as the main functions as deacidifying agents. It employs a combination of automatic page turning and atomized spraying technology to achieve the intelligent deacidification of whole books. Through the implementation of this project, a deacidification technology and equipment that is uniform in effect, safe and environmentally friendly, easy to operate, and suitable for widespread application will be developed. This will provide technical support for solving the acidification problem of collections in major museums and libraries across the country, promote the comprehensive launch of deacidification work nationwide, and also provide an important platform for the training and guidance of relevant technical personnel.
As a key national cultural relic protection unit and a specialized military history museum, the Nanchang August 1st Uprising Memorial Museum houses a large number of precious modern revolutionary literature, books, and paper cultural relics. This collaboration with the Nanjing Museum and other institutions, which have years of experience in paper cultural relic restoration, is not only beneficial for the restoration and preservation of the museum's paper cultural relics but also holds significant importance for the training of restoration talents and the overall improvement of research levels. The Nanchang August 1st Uprising Memorial Museum will work closely with other relevant units in this project to actively innovate solutions to the acidification problem of paper cultural relics and strive to achieve innovative results in intelligent deacidification technology as soon as possible.
