This is the scrapbook presented to the heroes of the Battle of Shangganling by Group 3 of the first year of high school at the Women's Affiliated High School of Normal University.
The Battle of Shangganling was a defensive operation conducted by the Chinese People's Volunteer Army to thwart the aggressive offensive of the "United Nations Army" led by the United States during the Korean War. It was also one of the most arduous and brutal battles of the Korean War.
Shangganling is the frontline position of the strategic point Wusheng Mountain on the central front of the Volunteer Army, located 4 kilometers south of the main peak of Wusheng Mountain. The small Shangganling is actually just a village with an area of no more than 3.7 square kilometers, yet on this less than 3.7 square kilometer position, the U.S. military mobilized 60,000 regular troops, used 300 artillery pieces, deployed 3,000 aircraft, and dropped 1.9 million shells.

The first-class combat hero Huang Jiguang.

On October 14, 1952, the "United Nations Army" launched the "Jinhua Offensive" against Shangganling. To crush the "Jinhua Offensive," the Volunteer Army conducted defensive operations in three phases. On the night of October 19, the 2nd Battalion, where Huang Jiguang was stationed, was ordered to counterattack the right flank of Shangganling at the 597.9 high ground, needing to capture the position before dawn.

Time is life. At a critical moment, Huang Jiguang stepped forward, armed with a grenade, leading two soldiers to crawl towards the enemy's fire point. Facing the enemy's fierce gunfire, he showed no fear, enduring pain, and continued to advance without stopping. Due to the overwhelming firepower, Huang Jiguang was wounded again and fell, but he still crawled towards the fire point, charging at the enemy's gunfire with his chest out and arms wide open. Huang Jiguang sacrificed his young life to pave the way for victory for his unit. Inspired by Huang Jiguang's heroic deeds, the troops quickly occupied the position, annihilating two enemy battalions. The Volunteer Army fought the "United Nations Army" for 43 days and nights, ultimately crushing the "United Nations Army's" offensive and achieving victory in defense.

In February 1956, the cook of the Volunteer Army, Zhu Anle, presented a commemorative white silk cloth of the Battle of Shangganling to his family in the motherland.

The fierce battle at Shangganling has become a classic example of the Korean War, fully embodying the spirit of dedication of the Volunteer Army soldiers for the motherland, for the people, and for victory; the indomitable spirit of unity and struggle to overcome difficulties; and the courageous spirit of fighting resolutely and to the end.
