Yunnan People's News Agency: Yesterday (Monday), the letter from Commander Ye to comrades was not completed due to the length of the original text, so it is continued below:
Currently, we are all receiving paper tickets, which have secretly been discounted by 30% or 40%. This means our salaries have been reduced by 30% to 40%, while prices are manipulated by unscrupulous merchants and continue to rise. Our army fights for the revolution and for ideology, without ever claiming even a fraction of territory, and we have never rested in our revolutionary battles. Therefore, apart from receiving salaries from Tang Shengzhi and the Wuhan government, we have no other way to raise funds to make up for this shortfall. Unlike other armies that have fixed territories, where senior officers have long filled their pockets, and junior officers also receive some benefits. Moreover, the Military Commission is controlled by Tang Shengzhi, who particularly suppresses our military supplies. For the Fourth and Eleventh Armies, the arrears have reached 1.8 million. Now, the lives of our officers and soldiers are extremely difficult to maintain. If the Eastern Expedition can alleviate our suffering, it might be worth our effort. However, if what is stated by Ting is true, then the result of the Eastern Expedition will put our army in an extremely dangerous position, isolated and exhausted, with no place to live and no place to be buried. I fear that even the paper tickets at a 30% or 40% discount may not be obtainable. Therefore, to maintain our survival for the sake of the revolution, we must find a place that is not surrounded by warlords and not blocked by imperialism. Among the eight provinces in the country, only Guangdong meets this condition. Guangdong has been the base of the Premier's revolutionary work for over 40 years, and its geography and society are more suitable for revolutionary survival. If Jiang Jieshi did not receive 5 to 6 million yuan in aid from Guangdong, he would not be able to sustain himself. If our army is determined to go to Guangdong, carrying the spirit of fighting against the Sun, Wu, and Zhang warlords, we can safely and effortlessly clear the gray armies that obstruct our progress. The spirit of sacrifice and unity for the revolution has long been recognized by the people, and thus is most envied by all counter-revolutionary leaders, who use the authority of the highest military agencies to implement plans to eliminate us, and fabricate various so-called Communist conspiracies to soften and divide our entire revolutionary group. If we fall into their trap, suspecting each other and dispersing our own strength, we are no different from committing suicide. Comrades, the glorious history of our Iron Army is also the result of the unity of revolutionary forces. Anyone who is loyal to the national revolutionary work is our most beloved warrior. Anyone who is a false revolutionary seeking personal gain, regardless of whether they hold the flag of the Blue Sky and White Sun, is our enemy. Comrades, there are no officers in our ranks who engage in personal gain, corruption, gambling, or indulgence; we are a clean army. However, those false revolutionary officers are either superstitious or indulged in wealth and lust. False revolution is counter-revolution. We must not allow ourselves to be scattered by the environment created by all counter-revolutionary false revolutions, which would undermine the unity of our true revolutionary forces. If we believe their words and disperse our historically solid united group, our future will be unimaginable. Soldiers, the glory of the Iron Army is achieved under the correct command of our commander, with the sacrifice of countless officers and brothers. Why would they be willing to sacrifice and fight so hard? Because they adhere to the Premier's ideological policies. If they knew that their blood could save countless poor and helpless compatriots, especially the most oppressed workers and farmers, and the unemployed and suffering people, and our soldiers all come from these poor, helpless, unemployed, and suffering workers and farmers, they understand that fighting for the most suffering people is also fighting for their own interests. Therefore, during the two Northern Expeditions, our Iron Army has always supported the development of the farmers' movement and sponsored their second revolutionary actions, because their liberation and benefits also mean that our soldiers' families at home, or we ourselves after the war, can return to the countryside and receive the same liberation and benefits (the original document ends here, seems unfinished, pending verification).
