Hello everyone, I am Lin Yanping, an interpreter at the Nanchang August 1 Uprising Memorial Museum. The summer of 2010 is unforgettable for me. It was my first day on the job, and when I nervously put on the headset and said the first line: "Welcome to the Nanchang August 1 Uprising Memorial Museum, I am very happy to explain for you!" it felt like the whole world went silent.
Friend, what do you feel like when you are most nervous? When I am most nervous, I can hear my own heartbeat, like a drum, and everything around me is silent. Just like that, I ended my first talk as a person of August 1 with a heart racing. Just as I was about to breathe a sigh of relief, a thunderous applause came rushing towards me, and I bent down and bowed deeply, feeling at a loss. At that moment, my eyes were moist: I was amazed that I finally took the first step, and I was even more grateful to the audience for their unwavering support, listening to my awkward, recited explanation from beginning to end. The heartbeat of that day, the applause of that day, I will remember forever.
In the blink of an eye, ten years have passed, my audience has grown from 0 to countless 0s after 1, my territory has expanded from the memorial museum to schools, communities, and even live streaming rooms. I not only tell the memories of August 1 with a microphone but also record the stories of August 1 in the new era with pen and ink.
To me, guarding has a very long timeline. In the future, will I guard August 1 for a lifetime? I think the answer is yes. The two characters "August 1" have deeply integrated into my blood, the red gene, the red sentiment, the red spirit, allowing me, as a child of the hero city, to truly feel the power of faith and the greatness of the motherland. When you just start a job and are full of enthusiasm after a year, it shows you are young; if you still have enthusiasm after five years, it proves you really like your profession; but what about after ten years?
In 2005, just after graduating from university, I walked into the Nanchang August 1 Uprising Memorial Museum and became an interpreter, and I have been doing this for 15 years. I want to say, this is my passion, it is all of my youth.
From simple exhibitions to immersive experience venues, I have witnessed the transformation of the memorial museum from an old building to a new site, echoing each other, from hundreds of thousands of visitors to millions.
Here, we guard not only the great history of the Nanchang Uprising but also a spirit, a power, a responsibility. Even in the next 15 years, I will still dedicate my love and strength to guard August 1 and pass on the spirit. I am the guardian Gan Jing.
I have been engaged in interpretation work for 11 years, from a history novice to an experienced interpreter after more than ten years of training. I often think how lucky I am to work in a place where the military flag is raised, leading the audience to open the box of memories, stepping onto that glorious road filled with suffering and twists and turns time and again. I believe history needs to be passed on, and in the future, I will continue to tell the stories of August 1 and pass on the red gene. I am the guardian of August 1 - Lou Qiqi.
