Name:Wang Ling's Paper-Cutting Works
Introduction:
China is the earliest country in the world to invent paper, having started paper-making as early as the Western Han Dynasty. The characteristics of paper, which is convenient for cutting and hollowing out, allow for the easy creation of paper-cutting art that meets folk needs. Therefore, during the Han Dynasty, paper-cutting art emerged from the people. However, due to the nature of the materials used in paper-cutting works, these pieces are not easy to preserve, and it is difficult to see ancient paper-cutting works in their original form. For a long time, paper-cutting art has experienced a long history in the folk culture across various regions of China, continuously developing, with the content evolving from original folk customs to widely reflect various themes, such as revolutionary history. Here is a paper-cutting work donated by Ms. Wang Ling, a member of the Jiangxi Province Artists Association, to the August 1st Uprising Memorial Museum. This work measures 8.18 meters in length and 0.8 meters in width, reflecting multiple precious moments from the process of the August 1st Uprising, featuring 34 characters. The work has smooth lines and clever layout, retaining traditional styles in paper-cutting techniques while also achieving new breakthroughs. This piece reflects the people's remembrance and nostalgia for the glorious history of the August 1st Uprising in Nanchang and is a cherished collectible.
