Name: Repair Tool for Tujia Bu Bridge 2

Introduction:

In late July 1927, two main forces participating in the Nanchang Uprising, the 24th Division of the 11th Army led by Ye Ting and the 20th Army led by He Long, successively took trains to Nanchang. When they arrived at Tujia Bu on July 26, they found that the large iron bridge leading to Nanchang had been destroyed and was impassable, preventing many horse-drawn carriages and cannons from crossing the river. Upon hearing the news, the local party organization immediately organized railway workers to repair the bridge. When the railway workers learned that it was Ye Ting and He Long's troops, the "Iron Army" that needed to cross the bridge, their enthusiasm was particularly high, and they rushed to repair the bridge surface. More than a hundred railway workers worked from 9 PM until around 7 AM the next day to completely repair the bridge surface. When the horse team carrying the cannons and the troops crossed the bridge, the workers forgot their fatigue and excitedly shouted: "Welcome, Iron Army!" "Down with Chiang Kai-shek!" The soldiers also cheered: "Long live the working class!" "Thank you, workers comrades, for your assistance!" They shook hands and embraced each other, reluctantly bidding farewell.

This story of repairing the bridge fully demonstrates the railway workers' affection for the "Iron Army" and shows that the victory of the Nanchang Uprising could not have been achieved without the support of the masses. Without the support of the masses, Ye Ting and He Long's troops would not have been able to reach Nanchang in time, and the consequences would have been unimaginable. It was precisely because of the support from the masses that the uprising was able to proceed smoothly.

The tools used for repairing the bridge have been preserved by the railway workers and were donated to the August 1st Uprising Memorial Hall after the founding of the country.
