Name: The map of Huangjiadu, Lehua, and Meiling used by Ye Jianying during the Northern Expedition.
Introduction:
Our museum treasures a precious artifact, which is a military map used by Ye Jianying during the Northern Expedition. This map is rectangular, measuring 1.49 meters in length and 1 meter in width, and is composed of three small maps of Huangjiadu, Lehua, and Meiling. The top of the map is marked with place names from right to left: Huangjiadu, Lehua, Meiling, and next to each place name, a small square grid icon indicates the location and adjacent place names, such as Meiling to the left of Lehua, Huangjiadu to the right, and Yangzizhou below. The left side of the map indicates that it was surveyed in the second year of the Republic of China and copied in September of the fifteenth year, while the right side explains the elevation and map style, and the bottom indicates the scale as 1:25,000. The entire map details the terrain and landforms of Huangjiadu, Lehua, and Meiling, specifically marking mountains, rivers, towns, and roads in detail. In the center of the map, in the Lehua area, there are various handwritten marks and numbers made by Ye Jianying using red and blue pencils.
At the beginning of the Northern Expedition, Ye Jianying served as the chief of staff of the General Reserve Command of the National Revolutionary Army's First Army. After capturing Nanchang, Chiang Kai-shek personally appointed Ye Jianying as the commander of the newly formed Second Division of the National Revolutionary Army. This military map was used by Ye Jianying on the eve of the attack on Nanchang during the Northern Expedition. Later, while returning to Guangdong with the army and passing through Ji'an, he stayed at the home of his old friend Yan Yusheng. Before leaving, he packed 61 documents, maps, books, and other items he carried with him into a wooden box and stored it at Yan Yusheng's home. Yan Yusheng kept it safe for him. After the liberation, Yan Yusheng wanted to go to Beijing several times to personally return these items to Ye Jianying, but due to his old age and frailty, he was unable to make the trip. Later, Yan Yusheng reported this situation to the Ji'an Military Region, which immediately forwarded it to the Jiangxi Provincial Military Region. At that time, the Nanchang August 1st Uprising Memorial Hall was being established, and upon learning of the news, they sent personnel to Ji'an, and after obtaining the consent of Yan Yusheng and his family, they collected these artifacts.
Subsequently, our museum informed Marshal Ye Jianying in writing about the collection of these artifacts. After learning this, Marshal Ye Jianying entrusted Ye Xuanping to visit the August 1st Museum to see this batch of artifacts and requested that the August 1st Uprising Memorial Hall properly preserve and display them. Our museum followed Marshal Ye Jianying's instructions, properly safeguarding this batch of artifacts, and exhibited this "Map of Huangjiadu, Lehua, and Meiling used by Ye Jianying during the Northern Expedition" for public viewing.
