In the exhibition hall of the August First Museum, there is a unique art exhibition wall, under a gray eave, with the four large characters "Gospel Hospital" written on it.

Why is the exterior of a hospital displayed in the exhibition themed around the Nanchang Uprising?

After the Nanchang Uprising, the uprising troops moved south to Guangdong, encountering the Nationalist troops who pursued and intercepted them along the way. The uprising army fought fiercely against them, achieving consecutive victories, but also suffered casualties. As they left Jiangxi, the troops made their way to Changting, Fujian, where the medical staff of the Gospel Hospital carefully assisted the wounded and sick. With the help of Comrade Fu Lianchan, the acting director of the hospital, many soldiers turned their peril into safety. From then on, the Gospel Hospital formed an inseparable bond with the Red Army. In 1933, under the leadership of Fu Lianchan, the entire hospital relocated to Ruijin, Jiangxi, and established the Central Red Hospital, becoming the first regular hospital of the Central Red Army. After the founding of the country, Fu Lianchan served as the deputy minister of health in the new China and was awarded the rank of lieutenant general in 1955. Comrade Mao Zedong once praised him as "the first general who did not lead troops."
